While travelling on the regional road from Logatec, Kalce towards Idrija or Črni vrh and on the way back, you might have noticed a sign - Welcome to Hotedršica. The village with a d, r, but most of all this ši, placed in a way, that makes it hard to pronounce even for native speakers. The village of Hotedršica is the center of a civil parish of the same name, in the municipality of Logatec, on the western-most edge of central Slovenia region (Osrednjeslovenska regija). This administrative unit includes the settlements of Ravnik, Novi Svet and parts of Žibrše. Across Hotenjsko podolje, the carst valley of Hotedršica, a regional road Kalce-Godovič is laid, it connects Notranjska, with Goriška and Posočje and is called Keltika in full extent. A little less than 1000 inhabitants of the parish can find enough economic opportunities not only in the central Slovenia region, but also in the neighbouring Idrija's industrial complex. Of tradicional economy, only a few can find employment or run a viable business with farming, there is still enough work in forrest management, wood processing and for craftsman in all types of carpentry. We still have a few inn's open, but the rest of the crafts, such as transport, charcoal making, grain milling are only alive in the memories of older people, as lost objects in the corners of attic's or as structures in the landscape. The oldest civil society in the village is naturally the Firefighters (founded in 1905), there are two more active: The Sports society and The society for Culture and Tourism. Main event that presents the ethnological heritage of this communities is Kresna nedelja or The Midsummer sunday, which takes place every year on that sunday that follows the summer solstice. Main sport event is Tek prijateljstva or The Friendship run, which takes place in May.
